Just short of one month since Mike Slagle was laid to rest, the Quaid Family put on an event to benefit his surviving children and fiance. Mike was tragically killed on his motorcycle October 19th after leaving his sons sporting event on the Ramona Expressway in Perris.
The loss of this man has left a huge hole in the Slagle family, the motorcycling community and with in the Temecula Quaid Harley Davidson Dealerships.
In a short time Quaid and the community rallied together, brought out their wares and set up on a beautiful sunny day. The line to get in the gate stretched for a block or more, and when I went out to check an hour later, it was still just as long. Groups of riders came in from Quaid of Redlands and Riverside Harley, formerly Skipfordyce for the day’s event.
Unknown Industries dazzled the onlookers with their bagger burnouts and wheelies. Music was provided by Forty Years Late and Chux Myth. Also showing was Fxck Cancer, Bay Alarm, My Day Spa and Tanning Salon, and even the R’side Charter of the Hells Angels showed up. If you needed a cigar, or a corset or a piece of jewelry it was there with a portion, or in some cases all of the proceeds going to the family.
The Bar B Ques were lit and turning out burgers and dogs for nothing more than what you donated. Jon Campbell manned the mic as emcee for the auction items that ranged from knives to guitars, a personal tour of The San Diego Wild Animal Park to tanning and Botox and even a reclining chair. There was no shortage of raffle items either. And wow did the event goers bring it, graciously pulling out the wallets and checkbooks to give this family the jump-start that they need during this difficult time.
While the sadness of the loss is a tough one, I am thankful for this family, that we live in a community that is so willing to give and to support them in this way.
Give yourselves all a pat on the back for a job well done and keep up the prayers for the children, family and friends who have suffered this loss.
